Where Can I Buy Catapult Bands in the UK?
Whether you're chasing competition targets or practising in the garden, off-the-shelf slingshot rubber usually lets you down. Inconsistent cuts, premature tearing and pull weights that don't match from one band to the next mean consistency never gets a chance to build.
I'm Phil. I run Natty Catty Bands from Cheshire, I sit on the UKSA committee, and I shoot most weekends with 7mm and 8mm steel. This is the straight answer to the three questions UK shooters ask me most: where to buy, who actually makes custom sets, and how to check reviews before you spend your money.
Where can I buy catapult bands in the UK?
Short answer: you can order generic bands from the big import platforms, or you can buy from a dedicated UK maker who cuts to your draw length and posts them the same day. I'm the latter, and there are three reasons it matters.
Fresh latex. Natural rubber latex degrades under heat, UV and moisture during long sea transit and storage in a warehouse. I hold and rotate fresh stock, so your bands arrive with their snap and band life intact rather than half-spent before they're even tied on.
Fast domestic dispatch. No waiting weeks for an overseas parcel, and no customs bill landing on your doormat.
Precise sizing. Instead of one-size-fits-all factory loops, I cut every set to suit your draw length, anchor style and ammo. If you're unsure what you need, the ammo size guide walks you through matching band thickness to steel size.
Are there UK-based suppliers for custom-made slingshot bands?
Yes. Dedicated UK makers build bespoke sets around your setup rather than standard factory dimensions, and a proper custom build looks different in three ways.
Clean parallel ends. Quality builds have straight, parallel sections at both the fork and pouch ends. That cut gives even tension across the clamps and stops the erratic pouch flips that cost you a shot. It's worth knowing why I cut them that way, so I've covered it in the Parallel-Ends FAQ.
Matched latex thickness. Rather than one gauge for everything, thickness and taper are paired to your ammo:
0.40-0.45mm with 15-10 or 18-10 tapers for light 6mm steel
0.45-0.50mm with 18-12 or 20-12 tapers for 7mm steel and practice clay
0.50-0.60mm with 20-12 or 20-15 tapers for standard 8mm steel
0.60-0.70mm with 23-17 or 25-20 tapers for heavy 9.5mm steel
Zero micro-nicks. Every set is hand-cut on acrylic templates with a fresh rotary blade. That eliminates the microscopic edge tears a blunt factory cut leaves behind - and those are the tears that turn into a band snapping mid-session. More on that in The Thick Band Myth, where I explain why heavier isn't automatically better.
Where can I find reviews of high-quality slingshot bands?
Finding feedback you can trust matters before you spend money on rubber. Three sources are worth your time:
UK slingshot forums and Facebook groups. The UK catapult community is one of the most active anywhere, and members regularly share chrono results, how long a cut lasted and direct recommendations for domestic makers.
Verified on-site reviews. Check the store reviews for real feedback on band longevity, draw smoothness and pouch tie quality from shooters using the same ammo as you. There are over 1,000 five-star reviews behind that page, so you don't have to take my word for it.
Clubs and competitions. Getting to a local club shoot or a national association meet lets you see different tapers, thicknesses and makers in action before you order - and you can usually try a set in someone else's frame first.
Why buy direct from me?
If you've seen my bands listed elsewhere, contact me here for my best direct price. Because I sell direct rather than through a marketplace, there are no seller fees baked into what you pay - that money stays in the bands.
Bundles make it cheaper again:
Budget line: 4 sets for £10, or 8 for £18
Snipersling: 4 sets for £12, or 8 for £20
Frequently asked questions
How long should a set of catapult bands last? It depends on thickness, taper and how hard you're pushing them, but a well-cut set used sensibly should give you hundreds of shots. The biggest killers are UV and heat, so store them cool, dark and dry between sessions.
Which thickness should I start with? Most shooters on 8mm steel are well served by 0.50-0.60mm. If you're on 7mm or practice clay, go lighter; if you're launching 9.5mm, go heavier. If you tell me your ammo and draw length, I'll tell you what to run.
Do you post across the UK? Yes - UK-made, UK-shipped, dispatched quickly so you're not left waiting on rubber.
Can I get a set cut for my exact draw length? That's the whole point of buying custom. Message me your draw length, anchor style and ammo size and I'll cut to suit.
